Buenos Aires Launches Virtual Hearing System for Traffic Fines

Buenos Aires, November 28 (NA) -- The Government of the City of Buenos Aires has launched a new system of virtual hearings via video call to manage and contest traffic fines.

This initiative is part of the city's digitization policies and allows residents to avoid financial penalties. For serious offenses, such as speeding, fines can exceed ARS $3,194,040.

According to the Argentine News Agency, the service has already resolved over 5,000 requests in just over a month and aims to become the main channel for attention for Porteños.

The Service: Virtual Hearings in 3 Steps The system is designed to simplify the process, allowing drivers to make a statement and present evidence without having to travel to a physical office:

  1. Request an Appointment: This is done through BOTI (the City's WhatsApp: 11-5050-0147), by sending the words "multas" or "infracciones".
  2. Right to Defense: The hearing, which lasts up to 20 minutes, guarantees the right to defense and allows for the presentation of evidence.
  3. Connect: The system generates a unique, personal link that is sent to the resident's email.

The entire process is recorded on video.

Benefits and Costs The main attraction is the time saved and the ability to defend against major fines. The service is accessible from any device (cell phone, tablet, or computer).

However, the Buenos Aires Ministry of Justice warns that: By accessing this service, the 50% discount for voluntary payment is lost. It is recommended to use the video call only if you have supporting documentation to make a defense.

Additionally, the government reported that it is working on developing an Artificial Intelligence assistant to further contribute to the simplification of the process.

As stated by the Head of Government, Jorge Macri, "Less bureaucracy means more freedom". The service is key for those facing high-value fines (such as running a red light or exceeding 140 km/h, which can be valued up to ARS $3,194,040).
